Global investment markets have witnessed a frantic start to 2023. Volatility is back in big way this year which is driven by a range of geopolitical and macroeconomic issues, including the war in Ukraine, Banking Collapses, China, inflation and interest rate hikes, we find ourselves in an investment environment with unknowable outcomes. These conditions are fatiguing, but history tells us that market recoveries can happen when investors least expect it.

As such, it’s important that while portfolio construction remains mindful of current market conditions, they’re also positioned for the years ahead.

About Jody Fitzgerald

Jody Fitzgerald is Head of Institutional Portfolio Management and Solutions at Morningstar Investment Management. She is responsible for the design and management of institutional client portfolios and developing innovative solutions to meet all of our clients' needs. She is a member of the APAC Investment Policy and Chair of the APAC Manager and Security selection Sub-Committee.

Jody is a senior investment executive with over 20 years’ experience in technical investment roles and business leadership positions. She has a unique combination of skills and experience gained through working across all parts of the financial services value chain including retail, institutional, platform, private wealth and asset management businesses.

She is a multi-asset class specialist with specific expertise in building multi-asset portfolios and designing fit-for-purpose investment processes.

Jody joined Morningstar from Australian Unity, where she was Head of Investment Product and Strategy. She was a part of the management team that lead, developed and shaped the strategy of the investments business unit. Before this, Jody also held other senior management roles including: Head of Investment Product and Research for UBS Wealth Management, Investment Strategist for Deutsche Asset Management and Head of Retail Investment Services for Skandia. Jody has a Bachelor of Economics and Finance degree with first-class honours.

Jody has a unique combination of skills and experience gained through working across all parts of the financial services value chain including, retail, institutional, platform, private wealth and asset management. A multi-asset class specialist with specific expertise in building multi-manager portfolios and investment process assessment, design and development, with specialties in the following areas:
